Isola Bella's white peacocks

Isola Bella, is a tiny island in Lake Maggiore near Milan in Italy.

It is one of three islands that make up the Borromeo island group. Isola Bella has been totally transformed over the years and today there is a large castle, terraced gardens and a jetty. The whole island was build to resembles a ship . . .

A visit to the island entails a guided tour through the castle and then one can visit the gardens. The gardens are magnificent  with terraces, statues and large trees all surrounded by the lake and the dramatic mountains and villages as a backdrop. One very interesting feature for me was the white peacocks that stroll around everywhere, almost as if the gardens were built solely for their pleasure! I had never seen a white peacock before and with their white feathers and long tails made a unique focal point....
